A New Neighborhood Delight
/Hi everyone, thanks for stopping by! This weekend I took a long overdue stroll through my local farmer's market. As I popped in and out of familiar stalls I found my path cut off by shoppers swarming one particular vendor. Some on tip toe pointing at distant items, some hunched over and peering through a display case of baked goods, still others rifling through coolers of nifty soups and spreads. Just what on earth was this place? I looked up at the bold red sign and read, Flourish Baking Company.
My FOMO was kicking in so I wedged myself between two couples to get a closer look. Granola, brownies, soups, dips; you name it, it was probably there. Not only were there dozens of items to choose from but many were vegan, gluten free, or both.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a full plate of samples lowered to the table. Four different hands immediately swiped a slice of crusty bread topped with some delicious concoction. I managed to get a slice myself; it was a white bean spread with lemon and fennel. The spread was smooth and bright with a hint of anise that didn't weigh down the palette as anise sometimes can. I ended up buying some along with the eggplant caponata sweetened with raisins and honey. To calm the hunger pangs I also got a lavender lemon muffin that was dense and flavorful and had me regretting I didn't buy more.
The best part about all of this? Not only do they come to my farmer's market but they're based in nearby Scarsdale, NY. Even better? Some of their products like cookies and snacks are available for online ordering!
Flourish has a few definitions: to be successful, to thrive, to be in one's prime. Which one applies best to Flourish Baking Company? Why, all of the above.
Until the next dish, ciao!
