The Short List
/Hey all, check those calendars, it's December 1st! Most of us will incur a great amount of stress these next few weeks trying to find the perfect gift for each person on our list. At the end of the day, play to their interests or you'll be up to your elbows in (very uninteresting) Visa gift cards. If you've got a foodie in your life and need some gift ideas I've provided you with the short list of my wishes and wants.
I've been in need of a cake stand for some time and this one by C Wonder is a nice addition to any table. Silver and gold are a timeless combination and slight curve in the body provides some security for frantic bakers such as myself. I'm aware the silver dots form a 'W', but really, who cares? There will be a scrumptious cake on top of it!
You have to really love someone if you're thinking about this gift: it's a wee bit pricey and it requires you giving it to them December first. So you have to have dinero and major organization to get this off the ground and into Santa's next day delivery sled. Any who receives this Vosges Advent calendar will consider themselves super thankful with each mini bar they savor. Intriguing combinations and fine ingredients make this one tasty splurge.
If the cover alone didn't entice you then I'm not sure we can be friends. Just kidding. Kinda.
Exquisitely photographed, What Katie Ate is essentially a picture book for adults. It also contains some pretty eclectic recipes: twists on old favorites and stretching across hemispheres for inspiration. I stumbled upon it years ago in an Anthropologie and to this day haven't bought it. But YOU should buy it if you know someone who will appreciate the photos and food equally, you know, like your best friend from work that Instagram's every meal.
Two years ago my boyfriend at the time and I spent the whole day at the Grand Army Plaza food truck rally. This was an incredibly awesome day. We made the bold decision to eat dessert first in case we didn't have room after grilled cheese/dumplings/waffles/tacos/etc. That's right, at 10am we marched right up to the Coolhaus truck window and ordered monster ice cream sammies. What you have to understand is Coolhaus flavors have no limits: balsmic fig and marscapone, avocado sriracha, salted caramel, bourbon pecan pie, and chicken and waffles are just some of the "Oh no they didn't" flavors. The ex ordered a potato chip cookie with brown butter candied bacon ice cream; it's just as heavenly as it sounds. I still dream about it to this day. Not the ex. The ice cream. I want it all.the.time. Perhaps with a Sammie of the Month Club subscription (!!!!!) I'll get it.
Last but not least I saw these fun guys at Home Goods for half the price they cost online. A sparkly chic gift to go with that cake stand maybe? I wish I could have parties all the time; then I would have had a compelling reason to buy these beauties.
Happy shopping! Until the next dish, ciao!
