Bringing Breakfast Back

Bringing Breakfast Back

Going to college in rural New England was when I first learned that people went out to eat for breakfast. That sticky diner tables (which I mostly frequented in the late evening hours) probably became sticky because people consumed waffles doused in syrup at normal breakfast hours. That restaurants other than diners actually served breakfast. But upon my return to Westchester I dolefully discovered that there was not quite the plethora of restaurants churning out breakfast that I thought.

A Tale of Two Pancakes

A Tale of Two Pancakes

When you go from having no winter to all the winter at once you have to make some pretty quick decisions. Can that trip to the bank wait? Did I get salt for the driveway? And, most importantly, what am I going to make? After shoveling as much as I did I knew I wanted to make a carb based dish but what exactly. I spied a open container of ricotta and like a snowball to the face, it hit me: ricotta pancakes.

Blueberry Cornmeal and Almond Cake

Blueberry Cornmeal and Almond Cake

A very happy 2016 to you all! Hopefully the year is off to a solid start but if not, this cake can get you there. You see, back when I visited San Diego I had a remarkable cornmeal and blueberry waffle for breakfast at Cafe 222. It was after a late night and I needed some serious sustenance. I think about that waffle often and, much to my chagrin, I do not have a waffle maker. Despite this minor yet atrocious set back, I decided to replicate it in a gluten-free cake form.

Corn and Leek Quiche with Proscuitto Sage Topping

Corn and Leek Quiche with Proscuitto Sage Topping

If I could sum up this June in one word it would be 'rainy'. Sure, we had a few brilliant sunny days but this is not April, it is June and I have been done with school and I need to keep busy goshdarnit. So what is one to do on rainy June days? Binge watch shows on Netflix, of course. If you're anything like me you went through Season 3 of Orange is the New Black at warp speed (probably did the same with Grace and Frankie and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt). And what does any of this have to do with food? So glad you asked.

May The Eats Be With You

May The Eats Be With You

Greetings all! Mid-April to Mid-May has been a blur. Work has been busy, extra curricular activities are packed in tighter than a rush hour 6 train, and in the middle of it all was my birthday.

My thirtieth birthday.

Westward Ho!

Westward Ho!

Hi everyone! I’m on spring break and using this glorious amount of time to explore/taste/savor as much as possible. While I love my eastern corner of the state, I often find myself wandering west toward the Hudson River towns scattered throughout the hillside. Maybe I've got that American spirit to keep moving west, to seek out new and uncharted territory. I'm always looking for the next great meal or anything else that will expand my gastronomic horizons. It's my own Mani-fresh Destiny (Cliché? Maybe. Spot on? Definitely)

I Think I'll Go To Boston

I Think I'll Go To Boston

Hi everyone! One of my best friends and I decided to get out of town recently and explore one of our favorite New England cities: Boston. It had been quite some time since I last went to Boston and enjoyed it from a tourist perspective so this was a welcome trip. We got to visit the Isabella Gardner museum; I'm not sure how I missed this awe inspiring venue over the last decade. We also visited the Museum of Science which, wouldn't you know, had a food exhibit on display and it was one of the most visually stunning exhibits I've seen to date: The Photography of Modernist Cuisine.

Birthday Fun the NYC Way

Birthday Fun the NYC Way

Hi friends! I don’t know about you but I recently had one of the best weekends in a long time. It was the birthday weekend of a good college friend so a gaggle of New Englanders descended on my apartment and the city. This birthday happened to be a thirtieth birthday so naturally there was only one course of action: dinner at The Plaza and brunch at The Smith.
